Hand-turned from select Mango wood, this "one of one" bowl represents a connection between the Midwest and the tropics. While much of our timber is rescued locally, this special piece was sourced from a St. Louis-based company owned by a family from India dedicated to sharing exotic woods from their homeland. The journey into working with this species began as a personal project—making a gift for my wife, who loves the fruit—and has since grown into an appreciation for the wood's sustainability and beauty.

The surface of the bowl displays a true kaleidoscope of colors that Mango (Mangifera indica) is famous for. Beyond the golden brown heartwood, the grain reveals streaks of yellow, pink, and black caused by natural spalting. It is an eco-friendly choice, as the timber is typically harvested only after the tree has completed its useful fruit-bearing lifespan. This piece balances that wild, organic aesthetic with a functional form.

• Finish: Sealed with polymerized walnut oil, beeswax, and carnauba wax for a smooth, food-safe luster.
