Hand-turned from rescued Spalted Sycamore heartwood, this "one of one" bowl carries a story of preservation from the American Midwest. The wood was gifted by a friend in Indiana who dedicates his time to rescuing timber—often from old barns, but in this case, from a standing tree he sustainably harvested himself.
The bowl’s surface reveals the chaotic beauty of spalted heartwood, where wild grain lines and natural decay have sketched intricate, map-like patterns across the timber. The sycamore’s natural lace-like grain is amplified by the spalting, creating a high-contrast visual texture that is both rugged and refined. It stands as a sturdy, enduring vessel that balances the raw history of the tree with the delicate touch of the lathe.
Finish: Sealed with polymerized walnut oil, beeswax, and carnauba wax for a smooth, food-safe luster.
Care: Hand wash only. Refresh the finish occasionally with walnut oil or food-safe wood conditioner.
