Maple Burl & Translucent Blue Epoxy Shot Glass
Dimensions: Approx. 3 1/4" tall × 1 1/2" diameter
Turned from a hybrid blank of stabilized, green-dyed maple burl and translucent blue epoxy, this shot glass offers a striking contrast between organic texture and synthetic clarity. The epoxy portion acts as a veiled window—smooth, luminous, and just transparent enough to suggest depth without revealing everything. It’s a quiet invitation to look closer.
The maple burl, stabilized for durability and dyed to a deep forest green, rises into the resin like a jagged coastline or submerged terrain. Its grain is unpredictable, its edges rugged, and its presence unmistakably alive. Though this piece was lathe-turned, its origin story includes a hand-shaped predecessor—formed with angle grinders and sanding blocks, where every curve was coaxed rather than cut.
Even here, the hand remains: in the sanding, the finishing, the final polish. The surface is sealed with polymerized walnut oil, beeswax, and carnauba wax, ensuring a smooth, tactile experience that honors both materials.
This is a vessel that bridges two worlds—wood and resin, turned and shaped, clarity and grain. It’s part of a quiet lineage, where each piece carries forward the spirit of the last, even as it stands entirely on its own.
