Aspen Rainbow
Dimensions: ~2‑3/4 inches tall × 1‑3/4 inches in diameter
Gentry Crafted Harvested | Colorado
This shot glass is crafted from Aspen (Populus tremuloides), a tree native to North America and especially abundant in Colorado’s high country. Aspen is known for its light color, fine texture, and straight grain, often appearing nearly white to pale yellow. It is a soft hardwood, lightweight and easy to work, which has made it a traditional choice for furniture, paneling, and utility items. Its cultural significance is equally strong—quaking aspens are iconic in the Rockies, their shimmering leaves and golden autumn displays celebrated as symbols of resilience and renewal.
The piece itself reflects both the natural qualities of Aspen and the artistry of its transformation. Standing nearly three inches tall with a diameter of one and three‑quarters inches, the form is compact yet elegant. The photos reveal a smooth, polished surface that highlights the subtle grain of the wood. What makes this shot glass distinctive is the rainbow coloration visible across its walls: streaks of green, yellow, and orange flow vertically, blending with the pale natural tones of the Aspen. These colors create a lively, marbled effect that contrasts beautifully with the wood’s understated base, giving the vessel a playful yet refined character.
The interior and rim carry touches of the same coloration, with hints of green and orange accenting the natural wood. This interplay of hues suggests both the organic unpredictability of burl‑like figure and the artistic enhancement of the material. The result is a shot glass that feels both rustic and contemporary—rooted in the forests of Colorado yet transformed into a vibrant, functional piece of art.
Finished with polymerized walnut oil, beeswax, and carnauba wax, this piece is both protected and enhanced—bringing out the natural depth of the wood while providing a smooth, durable luster.
