River Tamarind Burl Shot Glass

Dimensions: ~2‑1/4 inches tall × 2 inches diameter

Hand‑crafted from River Tamarind Burl (Tamarindus indica), this shot glass highlights one of the most exotic and visually dramatic hardwoods. Tamarind is native to tropical Africa but is now widely cultivated across Asia and the Americas. While the tree is best known for its tangy fruit, its wood is equally remarkable. The heartwood is deep reddish‑brown, sometimes with purplish hues, while the sapwood is pale yellow and often spalted, creating striking veins and contrasts. Burl formations add swirling, irregular grain patterns and clusters of “eyes,” making each piece truly one‑of‑a‑kind.

Tamarind is a dense, heavy wood with excellent durability and resistance to decay in its heartwood. Though challenging to work due to its interlocked grain, it polishes beautifully, producing a natural luster that artisans prize for fine furniture, carvings, and turned objects. In this shot glass, those qualities are elevated by careful hand‑turning and stabilization, which prevents humidity‑related expansion or contraction and ensures longevity.

The vessel is sealed with a food‑safe blend of walnut oil, carnauba wax, and beeswax, enriching the wood’s warmth while providing lasting protection. Early pours may lift a trace of walnut oil, a natural part of seasoning that does not affect flavor and diminishes with use.

Individually crafted by Gentry Crafted using responsibly sourced wood from small business suppliers, this River Tamarind Burl shot glass is more than functional—it is a showcase of rare wood artistry, designed to bring warmth, sophistication, and natural beauty to every occasion.
