Nara Wood Shot Glass

Dimensions: ~2‑7/8 inches tall × 2 inches diameter

Hand‑crafted from Nara wood (Pterocarpus indicus), this shot glass highlights the warm golden‑brown tones and interlocked grain of a tropical hardwood native to Southeast Asia. Known as the national tree of the Philippines, Nara is celebrated for its durability, natural fragrance, and striking appearance. The heartwood ranges from golden yellow to reddish brown, often accented with ribbon‑stripe or mottled figure, while the pale sapwood provides contrast. Burl formations of Nara are especially prized and are known as Amboyna Burl, among the most luxurious woods in the world.

Nara wood is valued for its strength, resistance to decay, and ability to take a high polish, making it a favorite for fine furniture, veneers, cabinetry, and turned objects. Its interlocked grain and natural luster give each piece a distinctive character, while its aromatic qualities add a subtle sensory dimension that lingers even after the wood is worked.

This vessel is finished with a food‑safe blend of walnut oil, carnauba wax, and beeswax, enriching the wood’s warmth while providing lasting protection. A slight walnut oil residue may appear during initial uses, but it is harmless and does not affect flavor.

Individually crafted by Gentry Crafted using responsibly sourced wood from small business suppliers, this shot glass embodies both sustainability and artistry. Versatile enough for casual gatherings or formal entertaining, it is a functional yet refined piece that celebrates the natural elegance of Nara wood and the skill of fine woodworking.
